At Calvary St. George's, we have no fewer than seven altars.
- The High Altar in the Sanctuary is where the
mass is celebrated at the primary Eucharist on Sunday mornings and on other
feast days.
- The Calvary Altar in the soon-to-be-renamed
Calvary Chapel comes to us from Calvary Church. This altar is a replica of one
at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, CT. We use this altar every Wednesday
during the year for our noon Eucharist, and also on Sunday mornings at our 8
AM mass.
- The St. Francis' Altar, yet to be consecrated as
such, which is an outdoor altar built in the 1990s. During the summer months,
we often use this altar for our primary celebration of the Eucharist when the
weather is cooperative. We also customarily use it for the Celebration of the
Feast of St. Francis, when we have the blessing of the animals.
- The St. George's Altar, which is in the north
transcept of the chancel. This altar was originally intended to be an altar of
repose, where those who have entered into life eternal would spend their last
hours before burial in the house of God.
- The St. Mary's Altar, in the south transcept of
the chancel, as an altar dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
- The as yet-unnamed altar in the Gathering Room of the
Bradley House, the former Rectory, which used to be the altar in the chapel of the
main church.
- The altar at the rear of the Sanctuary near the font,
which functions primarily as a place of repose for the elements waiting to be
brought forward to the high altar for blessing for the celebration of the
Eucharist.
